Family Events This Christmas Season
Christmas is fast approaching and it’s hard to not feel the excitement. For children, it’s such a thrilling time with the promises of no school and presents. For parents and guardians, it’s about treasured time spent together.
There are many events happening around the UK this festive season. From Christmas markets to winter wonderlands, there is something guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.
However, there is an almost-overwhelming choice in terms of what to attend and sometimes deciding upon an event that is good value for money as well as promising to be fun for the whole family can be difficult. Therefore, here are some of the best Christmas events for everyone to enjoy this holiday season.
Snowdome’s Santa’s Winter Wonderland
Snowdome are celebrating the 15th anniversary of their popular Santa’s Winter Wonderland event this year and, from the 15th November, will welcome families from all over the UK who are attending their famous event. The wonderland is one of the UK’s premier Christmas events for a reason, with over ten different zones such as the chance to meet Santa’s animal friends (including friendly alpacas and adorable ducks), a brand new children’s carousel ride and even the chance to meet the man, Santa Claus, himself.
Santa’s Winter Wonderland also includes Santa’s stage show and Snowdome promise that, for the 15th anniversary, Santa will be pulling out all the stops in a show that will entertain the kids whilst providing some laughs for all the adults too.
The event is ticketed and they are selling fast so be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment. It truly is one of the most magical experiences for the entire family this Christmas season and is therefore not to be missed out on.
4 Kingdoms Christmas Adventure
4 Kingdoms’ offer a Christmas experience that you and your family will never forget. You start off onboard Santa’s sleigh for an interactive flight to the North Pole. Following this, you can watch the Elves’ Magical Light Show, explore the toy factory and build your own Christmas bear. And this isn’t even all of what’s available for you and your family!
From the 23rd November, the event will be open in Newbury, but it’s best you book tickets as early as you can as this event is highly anticipated ever year, especially as it includes a chance to meet Santa himself. With the storytelling alone lasting two hours, it’s a great way to make the most of the festive season and celebrate Christmas with your family.
Whilst Winter Wonderlands are a great way to keep the kids happy, Christmas markets are the perfect way for adults and parents to get into a more laid-back Christmas spirit. There are hundreds of Christmas markets held all over the country and selecting one to attend can often be a greater ordeal than it needs to be.
Edinburgh is famous for its Christmas markets and will often be considered the must-attend event of its kind in the UK. Adopting a traditional, European style, Edinburgh offers the closest to a legitimate market from the heart of Europe without having to travel abroad. Soak up the festive atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine for the adults or a delicious snack or sweet treat for the kids.
Bath is another city famous for it’s Christmas markets, the picturesque Georgian streets of the city transformed into a magical, historical and eco-friendly shopping experience. Over 150 chalets will open from the 28th of November and whilst you’re in the city, you can also visit the Christmas trail at Prior Park Landscape Garden or Bath on Ice’s festive rink.
Similarly, Birmingham also attract a number of visitors each year for their Christmas market, known as the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market due to it’s authentic Germanic-Austrian nature; often considered to be the most authentic of it’s kind outside of central Europe. You can tuck into delicious German food and drinks whilst looking over a range of delightful and personalised Christmas gifts.
There are not many better feelings than watching as an entire town illuminates at once with festive spirit and decoration. Lights switch-ons provide the perfect opportunity to spend some time with the family, whilst enjoying the various entertainment that most of these events have to offer.
Nearly every town or city in the UK will host switch ons and therefore the choice can be quite daunting when it comes to selecting one. If you feel like travelling slight further afield from your most local, there are a few of note within the UK that are notorious for their light shows and festivities.
In London, both Oxford Street (21st November) and Regent Street (14th November) are famous for their events; Oxford Street offering a host of in-store gigs and sales whilst Regent Street being a hotspot for celebrities in recent years, with Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker leading the names who were involved with 2018’s event.
Albert Square in Manchester on the 14th November and around Norwich’s City Hall on the same day are also considered to be two of the UK’s must-visit Christmas light switch-ons, both famous for impressive firework displays and a number of high profile live acts in recent years.
