The Pineapple Peloton head to Paris
On a sunny day in June, an 11-person strong team gathered on the pavement outside their office in central London ready and raring to take on one of the ultimate cycling challenges –cycling c.170 miles from London to Paris. In only 24 hours!
The “Pineapple Peloton” represents Campbell Lutyens, an independent private capital advisory firm, which specialises in raising private equity, infrastructure and private debt funds from institutional investors worldwide.
The team was taking on the challenge to raise money for three very different charities close to their heart – the Family Holiday Association, Mind and ReachOut UK.
The Peloton had spent a few months in training in all sorts of weather conditions, knowing they would be facing enough vertical climb to have covered the height of the Eiffel Tower four times over!
Ed Abel Smith, an Associate at Campbell Lutyens, said:
“Cycling through the poppy fields of Normandy, enjoying regular croissant and omelette pit stops, I couldn’t help but recognise how lucky we were to be able to get away from the day-to-day and experience something new. This is precisely why we decided to raise money for the Family Holiday Association – ensuring that others, especially those really in need, also have the chance to enjoy a holiday and switch-off.”
The Family Holiday Association were at the start line to cheer the team off and wish them the very best of luck. And we were delighted when we got news that, despite one team member doing his best to keep it interesting by getting back-to-back punctures within five miles of the Eiffel Tower, and another taking a tumble on his bike at a busy Parisian junction that stopped traffic in all directions, the Peloton arrived safely at the Eiffel Tower bang on 3pm, 24 hours after leaving central London!
Thanks to the generosity of their colleagues, friends and families, the Pineapple Peloton raised an astounding £25,037.50 for the three charities and we want to say a massive, heartfelt thank you to them for all their hard work…
