As Britain’s first seaside resort, the North Yorkshire town of Scarborough is the natural choice for the launch of Seaside Walk Week 2016 on Sunday 29 May.
Starting at the Sun Court Café in the surrounds of the Grade II listed Scarborough Spa, the walk will follow the South Bay towards the harbours. Passing the Headland en route to the North Bay, walkers will get the chance to pause at North Bay Railway for free water and cakes before returning to the Spa via the same path.
Expert guides from our friends at Hidden Horizons will be on hand at points along the route to share fascinating facts about the local history, geology and wildlife. As the tide goes out, walkers can stroll along the beach, explore the rock pools and even find dinosaur footprints (yes, really!) in the exposed rocks at the front of the Spa.
The walk will be at a leisurely pace, with plenty of opportunities to take in the beautiful seashore and local surroundings. If you wish, our walkers can catch the open top bus along the seafront from the half way point back to the start free of charge thanks to the East Yorkshire Motor Service. Avoiding roads, it is perfect for walkers of all ages and suitable for off-road/all-terrain child buggies.
