Final chance to create memories for the Browns

The Browns were referred to our charity by a senior nurse at a cancer treatment centre in Wales. The nurse had for some time been providing care and support

for the mother, who had metastatic cancer and a short prognosis of only a couple of months. The family included mum, dad, grandparents and children aged between five and 14.

The family had not been away on holiday for a very long time and wanted to have a last chance to go away together and make some happy memories. By working with their referrer, we offered the family a seven-night break in one of our caravans at Hafan y Môr. The referrer called us later in the week to let us know how the family got on.

She told us that the family arrived as planned on the Friday but only stayed three nights – returning home on the Monday afternoon as Mum wasn’t feeling very well. But during those three short days, the family were able to spend quality time together, and Mum very much enjoyed being able to watch the children play and have fun for what was to be her final time.

Very sadly, Mum died at home the day after the family returned from their break, and being able to spend her last few days together as a family was priceless for everyone.
