CLIA and the Family Holiday Association launch campaign ‘What a Difference a Day Makes’.

On Sunday 10th September, Cruise Lines International Association UK & Ireland (CLIA), the world’s largest cruise industry trade association, announced they will partner with the Family Holiday Association over the coming year with the aim of raising enough funds to send an additional 250 struggling families on a precious day trip to the British seaside or local tourist attraction. Andy Harmer, Senior Vice President Membership and Director of CLIA UK & Ireland and Lucy Huxley, Editor-in-Chief at the Travel Weekly Group, took to the stage to announce the partnership at CLIA’s Cruise360 conference in Copenhagen.

Andy Harmer said:
“We are pleased to announce our partnership with the Family Holiday Association with the goal of providing some incredible holiday memories for deserving families up and down the UK. We are calling on all of our wonderful agent members and travel industry partners to donate to this truly deserving cause.”

The first official event of the partnership was undertaken by Giles Hawke, CEO of Cosmos Tours and Cruises and Avalon Waterways UK, who completed the Portsmouth Triathlon on Sunday raising nearly £700 for the campaign. Fundraising also took place at the conference with attendees generously donating over the course of the weekend. The campaign was set off to a fantastic start and has already raised enough to send 24 families on a day trip.

Millions of families in the UK struggle daily with issues such as severe and long term illness, bereavement, mental health issues, disability and domestic violence. Often these families don’t have the confidence or resources to arrange a break away from home, and yet evidence shows that even the simplest break such as a family day out results in stronger, healthier and happier families and communities.

Angie Watson, Fundraising and Comms Manager at the Family Holiday Association said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering up with CLIA; we share an understanding of the importance and value of breaks away from home and the positive and long-lasting impact they have on families’ lives. We have already seen the generosity and enthusiasm from the cruise industry and are excited to work together over the coming year and spread a little sunshine to those who need it most.”
