New Record – more than 3,000 families helped in 2015
We have hit a record of helping more families in a year than ever before.
We have hit a record of helping more families in one year than ever before. In 2014 we enabled 2,872 struggling families to access a much-needed break. This year, we have already surpassed that figure, with more than 3,000 families helped. And we hope to help even more families before the year is over!
The families we help are in terrible circumstances. Many are affected by severe and sudden illness in the family, child bereavement, disability, mental health issues or abuse. By providing simple seaside breaks or day trips for these families, we make a real difference to their lives.
From our work, we know that:
The desperately needed breaks we provide help build family members’ relationships with each other, and this extends out into whole communities. Teachers tell us that family breaks can help to improve a child’s learning and behaviour in the classroom.
Research shows that short breaks can also lead to more proactive and positive attitudes towards other forms of social intervention, such as marriage counselling; ultimately showing that families who holiday together are more likely to stay together.
In 2015, our 40th Anniversary year, we have set ourselves the target of raising enough money and goodwill to help at least 4,000 families in 2016. You can help us achieve this target by:
- contributing to our 40th Anniversary Caravan appeal or make a general donation
- fundraising by joining one of our organised events or create your own
- if you work in the travel and tourism industry, joining our 500 for 500 campaign to help us raise an extra £250,000 by 2016
Spending quality time together as a family results in stronger, healthier and happier families and communities. Find out more in our research section.
