Family Holiday AssociationThe Family Holiday Association is seeking a new Chair of trustees and a Treasurer trustee to join its board. The charity is looking for dynamic, diligent and experienced individuals to help lead our organisation through an exciting period of growth.

The charity is in a strong financial position and has recently set a new strategy with an ambitious vision.

At the Family Holiday Association, we provide short-breaks and day trips within the UK for families coping with some of the toughest challenges life can bring.

The majority of families we help have never been away before. A simple break from a stressful situation can create precious memories, strengthen bonds and develop a new sense of optimism. And we know this works: since 1975 we have supported over 160,000 parents, carers, children and young people by providing time away.

In 2017: 4,137 families, including 9,411 children, benefited from a short break or day trip.

  • We worked with over 1,300 referrers nationwide from 196 local authorities
  • More than 90% of families said that they had fun, created memories, had reduced stress and were more optimistic about the future
  • Our corporate partners include TUI, Royal Caribbean, Cruise Lines International Association, Travel Direct, National Trust, Bourne Leisure, VisitScotland and Visit Kent


Hardship to happinessTrustees play a vital role within charities. They ensure the organisation remains focused on its mission, is legally and financially compliant, and that it is a well-managed and effective charity. At the Family Holiday Association trustees bring their knowledge, passion and experience to support our work and improve opportunities for families.

We are looking to appoint a Chair of trustees and a Treasurer trustee as we seek to strengthen and diversify our board. Our current Chair and Treasurer are retiring after leading the Family Holiday Association to be the established charity it is today. Ideally, the new Chair will have knowledge and experience of the travel industry or social welfare and help bring a fresh perspective to the work of the charity.

Our trustees are not involved in the day-to-day management of the organisation but are expected to play an active role in supporting the CEO and our senior management team. The duties of trustees are set out in our Board’s terms of reference. Typically, we hold six meetings a year in London.
