#ScotSpirit campaign to help Scottish families get a break

VisitScotland adds charitable edge to destination marketing.

This offer ran during April and May 2016 and has now closed.



We are delighted to have teamed up with VisitScotland and some of Scotland’s leading tourism industry partners to help almost 100 Scottish families get a fantastic break in 2016.

As part of VisitScotland’s Spirit of Scotland campaign, businesses including Hilton, Macdonald, ibis, Novotel and Mercure hotels, the Scottish Youth Hostel Association, The National Trust for Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland, Wilderness Scotland, Jacobite Tours, Camera Obscura, Dynamic Earth, The Real Mary King’s Close, City Sightseeing Bus Tours, Blair Drummond Safari Park, Natural Retreats – Cairngorm Mountain, Glasgow Science Centre, Edinburgh Bus Tours, The Helix Kelpies Tour and Abellio Scotrail helped to enable almost 100 vulnerable and disadvantaged Scottish families the opportunity to experience more of the Spirit of Scotland for themselves.

The range of fantastic breaks on offer meant that families had the chance to:

  • experience the glory of the Highlands with a break in Aviemore
  • explore historic Edinburgh or Stirling including a visit to the castle
  • enjoy family fun at a resort hotel in Dunblane
  • visit Inverness or Oban and combine activities with breathtaking scenery
  • wonder at the fantastic museums and bustle of Glasgow
  • take in all the sights that Aberdeen has to offer

The Family Holiday Association worked with local charities and support organisations during April and May to identify families who would benefit the most from these breaks, including those who hadn’t had a break in several years, are living on a low income and are struggling with some of the toughest challenges life can bring.

All families who applied had to have children under 18, be living on a low income and not have had a break recently. The family had to be referred by someone working with them in supporting role like a teacher, social worker, health visitor or another charity.
