Social Tourism becoming better recognised says Alison Rice, travel writer and charity trustee
On Thursday 2 August the BBC Radio 4 programme You and Yours took a look at the state of the British travel industry in the wake of the poor weather, the Olympics and the recession. Alison Rice, well-know travel writer and Family Holiday Association trustee, was invited to take part.
Presented by Winifred Robinson the programme takes the temperature of the Great British Day Out. From seaside resorts to open-top buses, from caravans to the big attractions, You and Yours looks at how we’re holidaying this summer. Has the wet weather driven you abroad, or are you staying in the UK for the Olympics? Have you had to cut back on holiday spending this year?
Alison Rice is invited to discuss the work of charities involved in helping families access that much needed break and talks about how “social tourism” is being recognised as an important concept by the travel industry.
Alison is preceded by a family from County Durham talking about the difficulties of getting a holiday and just how much that break means to them.
