The day we set sail with ABTA Lifeline

Back for a sixth consecutive year, on a sunny (and not so windy!) day in July, 11 teams took to the Solent for our popular regatta.

This year we joined forces with our friends at ABTA Lifeline, a charity set up to help colleagues in the travel industry when they need it most – from wheelchairs or emergency repair to helping with essential daily living costs such as food and utility bills.

On a beautifully sunny day the initial lack of wind gave everybody time to get to grips with the mechanics of their boats, ably guided by Sunsail’s professional skippers and crew. Although it took a while, the wind did eventually pick up – and we were off!

After an enjoyable afternoon of sailing – with two races taking place – the teams headed back to shore for afternoon tea and the all-important prize giving.

The winners of the coveted trophy were Sparkler, with InteleTravel claiming second place and In2Action coming in third.

Together with the proceeds of the raffle held on the day, the event raised over £9,000 for the Family Holiday Association and ABTA Lifeline.

Commenting on the event, Derek Jones, Ambassador of the Family Holiday Association and Chair of ABTA Lifeline, said:

“Thank you to all the teams that took part in an excellent day’s sailing and for supporting two amazing travel industry charities. ABTA Lifeline supports people in our community in their time of need, and Family Holiday Association gives the most disadvantaged families a UK break helping build those special memories we all take for granted.”
