Our work with Barnardo’s
Every family we help is referred by someone who is already working with them in a supporting role. Our referral network includes teachers, health visitors, social workers and many other charities, including Barnardo’s.
The children and families referred by Barnardo’s have included young carers, those escaping domestic abuse or struggling with mental health and emotional wellbeing, and many more from one of their 1000+ children’s services across the UK.
They have been referring families to the Family Holiday Association for many years. Between 2001 and 2019 we have received almost 500 applications from Barnardo’s, providing short breaks and days out for almost 1,200 children and those who look after them in 496 families.
The children and families we’ve helped include young carers, those escaping domestic abuse or struggling with mental health and emotional wellbeing, and many from children’s centres across the country.
Barnardo’s believe a child’s future should never be defined by their past. Whoever they are, and whatever their circumstances, Barnardo’s believe in them. Incredible things happen when you believe in children.
Commenting on the work, Lynn Perry, Corporate Director Children’s Services Operations at Barnardo’s, said:
“Barnardo’s has long understood the benefits of having a break away from home. Being able to refer families we are supporting to the Family Holiday Association is a wonderful way to give them vital time together, bring them closer and allow them to create precious memories.
“Our staff often see the benefits of a Family Holiday Association break for the whole family, in the immediate and the longer term.”
