Create your own Seaside Walk
If you can’t make it to one of our official Seaside Walk Week 2017 events in Scarborough and North Cornwall, or our Thames Treasure Trail in London, you needn’t miss out on all the fun – it’s really easy to create your own walk. Here’s how to do it…
Step 1: Decide where you want your walk to take place
One of the great things about living in Britain is never being too far from the coast. Why not head to your nearest seaside location with family and friends?
Whether it’s a gentle stroll along the beach, an invigorating few hours taking in local landmarks and sea air, or even a full day’s hiking up and down local hills, it all counts! And don’t be too disheartened if you can’t make it to the coast. There are lots of places to walk in all parts of the UK.
At the bottom of the page you’ll find a few ideas for places to go and links to information on walks of different types and maps of suggested routes. Just choose your region and click on the links to find out more.
Step 2: Pick a date and gather the troops!
Ask around to see who wants to join you on your walk. Our official Seaside Walk Week 2017 takes place during the summer holidays (Sunday 22 – Sunday 29 July), so any date within this period would be ideal. But don’t let this stop you if another date is more convenient – the main thing is getting everyone outside to enjoy some fresh air and the beauty of the Great British seaside.
To help younger walkers learn more about the seaside, we’ve produced a free ‘spotter sheet’ containing some familiar sights that they can tick off as they see them. Click here to download the printable PDF.
Step 3: Why not fundraise for us at the same time?
There’s nothing more enjoyable than the sight of happy children, the sound of waves crashing and the smell of fish and chips at the British seaside. Best of all, by taking part in Seaside Walk Week, you’ll have the comfort of knowing that you’re playing an important role in highlighting the wonders of the seaside and the vital work of the Family Holiday Association. Oh, and don’t forget to take lots of photos of your fun by the sea!
Step 5: Tell the world how you got on
Share your seaside stories and fun photos with your followers on social media. And remember to head to the Family Holiday Association’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages to share your experience with us and our supporters!
