#TogetherTuesday

York MinsterHow we work with DMO’s…

You can help families to have a much-needed break in ways other than making a simple donation. If you work in the domestic travel & tourism sector you could be uniquely positioned to help.

Our effective partnerships have already helped thousands of families access vital short breaks and days out…

Spotlight on Make It York

Make It York have worked with their partners to provide the York Pass to help families from Yorkshire that would otherwise miss out on a break. The York Pass is York’s official sightseeing card providing free entry to city’s top visitor attractions including the city sightseeing bus tour. They were used by families for day trips and as part of a short break package by combining them with accommodation donated by the Youth Hotel Association in York.

Great York Ghost Search“This trip meant absolutely everything to the family. Mum has been too anxious to do something like this before, so this was a brand new experience for the children. And Mum, having realised that this is something she can do, has found that her confidence has grown so much as a result of this trip, that she feels encouraged to do things like this as a family more often.”

Make It York have also been able to help the charity through fundraising.

In June 2019, we were the official charity partner for the Visit York Tourism Awards, and over the years we have benefited from the annual ‘Great York Ghost Search’. Created to celebrate the city’s status as Europe’s most-haunted, the ghost search raised an incredible £1,825.50 last year, which was split between Make It York’s two nominated charities, the Family Holiday Association and The Institute for Cancer Research.

In total, Make it York have raised an amazing £9,421.35 in vital funds, as well as helping 322 families to have a vital break through the York Pass.

Paul Whiting, Head of Visit York, said:

We’re delighted that we’re able to support the Family Holiday Association and the inspirational work they do to help disadvantaged families from across the UK to enjoy the restorative power of a break away from everyday life through a holiday – something that we all take for granted but help to deliver each and every day.”

“The York Pass gave us an amazing opportunity to visit so many attractions. It helped us to make lovely memories and we had nice news to tell our friends for a change. We feel more positive as a family, and our conversations at home are much more positive too. We really appreciated the break, thank you so much to everyone who made it possible.”

How you can support us!

Connect your business and start making a real difference to families in your area. Email Alex Bunney or call him on 020 3117 0651 to start a partnership today!

There are three simple steps to converting your generosity into precious benefits for families:

1. Let us know what you can donate, including dates between March and October

2. We will promote this to our extensive referrer network through our online booking system

3. We then work with referrers to match families in their local communities with a break/day out. Then we send the family a ticket and they arrive like any regular customer.
